Hornbill International Rock Contest 2013

The Hornbill Festival 2013 celebratedfor week-long in Kohima, Nagaland (India) has been approaching on first week of December, 2013. Sources state that the Hornbill Festival is a tribute to the great “Hornbill” which is the most admired and revered bird for the Naga people, for its qualities of alertness and grandeur. This Majestic bird is closely identified with the social and cultural life of the Naga people, as reflected in various tribal folklores, dances and songs.
The awe and admiration for the bird is symbolically displayed on almost all tribal traditional headgears worn during the festival and is indicative of the commonness of the Naga people.

The Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is a cultural extravaganza to revive, protect and preserve the richness and uniqueness of the Naga heritage, while for the visitors to this event;it is a means for comprehensive understanding of the Naga People, their land and culture.

Over the years, this event has gained in stature and vision. It has now become a unique platform for the tourists to witness the cultural diversity not only for the Naga people, but the seven other sister states of North East India, such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, in all its wonder and glory. Since 2007, International cultural troupes have been taking part in it and it is slowly turning out to be an international event.

With the increasing popularity garnered by the festival over the years, Nagaland government has extended the Hornbill festival to a 10 day event starting from 1st December, 2013.

The Hornbill International Rock Contest organized by the Music Task Force, Government of Nagaland is the integral part of the festival. In the South East Asia, the Hornbill Festival is one of the biggest tourism and youth festival organized in the Indian state of Nagaland. The registration for this mega musical contest has recently been announced. Participation entries are open and entries will be accepted from the internal shores as well.

This time the winning music band will be awarded prize money of INR 10,00,000/- (One million Indian rupees). This time, the Hornbill Internal Rock Contest 2013 is scheduled at Solidarity Park,Kohima,Nagaland, India during December 1-10, 2013.

Prizes of Hornbill International Rock Contest 2013:

Band Prizes:
First prize: INR 10,00,000/- (One million Indian rupees)
Second prize: INR 2,50,000/- (250 thousand Indian rupees)
Third prize: INR 1,50,000/- (150 thousand Indian rupees)

Individual Prizes:
Best Vocalist
Best Guitarist
Best Drummer
Best Bassist
INR 30,000/- (30 thousand Indian rupees) each and other surprise Sponsored Prizes.

Registration Procedure:

Indian Bands out of Nagalandshould send application along with demo vide email at hornbillmusic@gmail.com

Recording quality will not be given credit; however, the demo should be clear for proper assessment. The demo can be of any number of live or studio recorded or original song(s) in audio format. Bands will need to send its band picture or band logo in jpg format. Lyrics of the song submitting for demo should be given along with the audio for screening of the lyrics. Songs having anti-religious/ social themes will not be accepted. Last date for demo submission is 3rd December, 2013 and organizers will not take responsibilities for loss or late receipt of the same.

Free dormitory accommodation will be provided for the music bands at the venue, however, bands desiring for availing this accommodation facility need to apply separately. Separate dormitories will be there for men and women. Each band must prepare with eight members preferably.

Organizers reserve the right to select any number of bands, by any other mode they may be constrained to employ. All decisions made by the organizers are final and binding.

International Bands will have to take care of their VISA for entering into India and any other expenses required for their journey to Nagaland, India. All local conveyance, lodging and food will be taken care by the organizers once the band is selected for the contest.

All the local Bands from Nagaland need to attend Live Audition at the Heritage (Old DC Bungalow), near Raj Bhawan, Kohima. The confirmed scheduled date and time along with other information will be published through local newspapers on due course of time.
