Jagannath Barooah College Women Cell, Jorhat Organized All Jorhat Chorus Competition 2014 on 13th May, 2014

All Jorhat Chorus Competition 2014, a spectacular musical show, has been successfully organized by Jagannath Barooah College Women Cell, Jorhat at the College auditorium on 13th May, 2014. The programme led by Dr. Jyotirekha Hazarika inaugurated with the lighting up by Principal Dr. Bimal Bora, Arati Neog,  Vice Principal Dr. Putul Boruah, Dr. Anjan Baruah and Nabin Dutta.
With a beautiful chorus performed by teachers of J.B. College, the competition was started.

The inaugural chorus performed by J.B. College, Jorhat has been a beautiful group song. The lyrics of the chorus is written by Kailash Nath Sharmadev, directed by Dr. Mrinal Nath and composed by Sukumar Sharma. The well tuned chorus team consisted of Prof. Anmona Bora, Binapani Devi, Kalyani Goswami, Panchami Bhattacharya Bora, Sumita Purkayastha, Nibedita Mahanta, Nibedita Bezbaruah, Dipanjali Baruah, Minakshi Phukan Hazarika, Rasima Kachari, Prof. Akashdeep Thakur, Angkur Gogoi, Ratul Dutta, Gaurav Borthakur and Mrinal.

After the welcome address, a brief account about J.B.C. Women Cell was brought to the knowledge of the public present in the programme by Dr. Dipa Dutta, Jt. Secretary of Women Cell. In her speech Dr. Dipa Dutta stated that Jagannath Barooah College Women Cell (J.B.C. Women Cell) was established on 1st January, 2004. She also mentioned that the J.B.C. Women Cell has been organised All Jorhat Chorus Competition for the fifth time on the roll on 13th May, 2014.

Countable ten teams participated in the Chorus Competition 2014 where some of the teams blessed with renowned singers as mentioned below:
  • Cinamara College, Cinamara
  • Anajori Mahila Anusthan, Choladhara, Jorhat consisted with popular singer, Lina Bezbaruah.
  • Pragati Mahila Group, Jorhat.
  • D.C.B. Girls’ College, Jorhat consisted with popular singer, Prof. Kukila Goswami.
  • Sankardeva Seminary Higher Secondary School, Jorhat.
  • Jorhat Jatia Vidyalaya, Jorhat.
  • Jorhat Bar Association, Jorhat.
  • Pokamura Mahila Sanmilan, Jorhat.
  • Ruli Phukan and Group, Jorhat.
  • Pragjyotika English School, Titabor.

The prize distribution ceremony compeered by Akhtara Hussain was held after the competition over which was chaired by Arati Neog and joined by the Principal and Vice Principal of J.B. College and Rakhi Saikia, founder president of Jagannath Barooah College Women Cell and retired vice principal of J.B. College. In the prize distribution programme ‘Madhoi Malati’ fame, popular singer, Lina Bezbaruah performed with a melodious song. Moreover, Kukila Goswami and Shivani Baruah also performed with popular numbers. Ms Kukila Goswami gave her melodious voice for the Assamese song “Puhania Saraiti Urile” of the super hit Assamese film ‘Koka Deuta Nati Aru Hati’.

A wonderful opportunity to watch the beautiful performance and listen melodious voice of popupar singers like Lina Bezbaruah, Kukila Goswami and Shivani Baruah respectively offered by J.B.C Women Cell could really transport the audience present to the beautiful world of music.

Three out of ten chorus teams adjudged as winners in the competition as mentioned below:
  1. D.C.B. Girls’ College, Jorhat  - Awarded 1st position.
  2. Pragjyotika English School, Titabor - Awarded 2nd position.
  3. Jorhat Bar Association, Jorhat - Awarded 3rd position.
Judges panel of the chorus competition were consisted with Shivani Baruah, Arati Neog and D.r Minakshi Phukan Hazarika. In culmination of the programme, vote of thanks offered by Dipanjali Baruah, Jt Secretary of Women Cell followed by closing declaration by the programme compeer.

Jagannath Barooah College, Jorhat, Assam is one of the premier institutions of educational excellence in North-East India which was established in the year 1930. With a glorious accountable past, crossing many miles of achievement, moulding many minds in different fields, with the confident with its educational path in the present time, the College has been really cultivating hope and even brighter future in academic calendar of our country. The rich socio-cultural heritage of Jorhat is always giving conducive atmosphere to the activities of the College for which the society at large has been getting benefit all around. The Women Cell of the College has also been working for women empowerment creating awareness through various activities. Orientation programme and campaigning with regard to mother’s health, child care and nutrition and economic upliftmen of women, education for child, gender equality, etc. have been the most talked matters in present day life. “Charity begins at home”, mother is the foundation of the society. Moral education must be imparted to the students and children. J.B.C. Women Cell engaged in such greater cause is really praiseworthy and its activities must be followed upholding social change.
