Exclusive Interview with Achyut Ranjan Gogoi, Topper in First Position in HSLC Exam 2014, Wants to Become an IPS

Achyut Ranjan Gogoi has been secured the First Position in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2014 scoring 585 out of 600 (97.5%). The result of the HSLC Examination 2014 was declared 28th May, 2014 which was conducted by the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) during February-March, 2014. Born on 24th November, 1997, Achyut Ranjan studied in an Assamese medium school, namely, Nazira Jatiya Vidyalaya, Sivasagar district of Assam.

Nazira Jatiya Vidyalaya is a private school, but for such an outstanding achievement with the Topper in the HSLC Exam Result 2014, the Minister of Education, Government of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma made an inspiration visit after declaring the result to the School where Achyut Ranjan studied and the Minister announced a cash award of Rupees Five Lakh for development of the School.

Achyut Ranjan is a son of Shri Arun Gogoi of the village Halua Gaon, Chakimukh under P.S. Nazira in Sivasagar district of Assam. The father and the mother of the shining star Achyut Ranjan are both teachers. His parents, well-wishers, friends including his school are proudly happy on his achievement.

A total number of 3,69,075 students appeared in the HSCL Exam 2014, out of which 2,26,685 students emerged successful. A total of 39,906 students secured First division and 82,793 and 1,04,886 students emerged as Second and Third division respectively. Top 10 Positions emerged by 25 students. The Government of Assam has already announced that all the position holders will be given opportunity to visit NASA.

Dimorian Review tried to have an interaction with Achyut Ranjan and communicated on 1st June, 2014 through which he has told many aspects behind his success. Following are the excerpts that he shared in interaction.

DIMORIANREVIEW: First of all, Dimorian Review congratulates you for your outstanding achievement in HSLC Examination 2014. Would you like to share about your hobby/hobbies?
Achyut Ranjan Gogoi: Thank you. I like to read books and Cryptography.

DR: You have shown outstanding performance in the HSLC examination. What are the subjects you have studied in Class-X?
Achyut Ranjan: Six subjects under SEBA syllabus are Social Science, General Science, General Mathematics, Advance Mathematics (As elective), English and Assamese.

DR: A total of 3,69,075 students appeared in the HSCL Exam 2014, but you have topped in Fist Position. How did you prepare for HSLC examination? Did you follow any reading schedule for each subject?
Achyut Ranjan: I did not have my reading schedule. After the test examination I read 6-7 hours daily. Whatever I read I read thoroughly.

DR: You have told that you devoted 6-7 hours in study per day for preparing the HSLC examination? Was it sufficient enough for preparing the HSLC examination?
Achyut Ranjan: Yes, it was sufficient.

DR: Did you have a dream of achieving the position that you have obtained in the HSLC examination?
Achyut Ranjan: Yes, I dreamt of a position, but not of the First Position.

DR: Would you like to say something about your success mantra?
Achyut Ranjan: Winners do not do any different thing. They just do the same thing differently.

DR: Who is the sole inspiration for your achievement? To whom particularly you like to give the credit for your achievement - parents/teachers/friends/all of them/any other else?
Achyut Ranjan: My teachers, my parents and my friends.

DR: In HS what is your interest of study - Science/Arts/Commerce?
Achyut Ranjan: Science.

DR: Where do you planning to take admission for study HS?
Achyut Ranjan: I am planning to study in Delhi Public School, Nazira.

DR: After HS what will be your career interest? What is the aim of your life?
Achyut Ranjan: I would like to complete Graduation and after that, appear in UPSC examination. I want to become an IPS.

DR: Do you agree that the syllabus you have studied in school is alright? Or, would you like to say for inclusion of any Subject/Topic in the syllabus? Or, did you find any Subject/Topic irrelevant in the syllabus?
Achyut Ranjan: Alright, but I think that Geography and History should be included. NCERT syllabus can be good. I could not get it, but to my next batch it has been initiated. No, there is no such irrelevant.

DR: Government of Assam has announced that all the students passed in top ten positions will be sent on tour to NASA. If so happens, you will be benefited directly and the school you studied or school/college you will be studying HS will also be benefited. You will be able to share your experience of visiting NASA. What are you feeling in this regard?
Achyut Ranjan: Yes, sure. It is nice feeling.

DR: What will be the message you would like to share with the readers or, a message for the students presently studying in Class-X.
Achyut Ranjan: I would like to tell them not to follow others. Build your own way and make a dream. Dreams are like stars. You may never touch them, but if you follow them, they will lead you to your destiny.
