Doi Maach (Fish in yogurt gravy)


It is a very popular Bengali recipe. This authentic Bengali recipe  is easy to make, low in calories, high in protein and simply delicious. I'm sure if you try this recipe Doi Maach will become a favorite of yours too. Here's how to prepare it.

Ingredients:
  • 500 grams Rahu fish (cleaned, marinated with salt and turmeric and lightly fried in Mustard oil )
  • Mustard oil for frying the fish pieces
  • 1/2 cup fresh curd
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 medium onion chopped fine
  • 2 medium onions blended into a paste
  • 1tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 Green Cardamoms
  • 1 small piece Cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 tsp freshly grounded garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • A pinch of sugar
Method:
  • Heat ghee, add bay leave , cloves, cinnamon and cardamom
  • After few second add the sliced onions, ginger garlic paste, chillies and fry till brown in color
  • Add the onion paste, turmeric powder and chilli powder and fry for 2-3 minutes. 
  • Pour the blended curd into the pan and stir. Add salt, a pinch of sugar as per your taste. 
  • Add garam masala powder .Mix well and cook for 5 minutes
  • When the gravy reaches the desired consistency, add the fried fish pieces carefully and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot with rice
