In search of a rainbow

By Ananya Chatterjee

I am searching for a rainbow, but I know not why
It seems there is no end to the sky;
I am searching for a rainbow on a cloudy day…
Somehow hoping that the sun would find its way,
Lighting up the rain washed sky once more,
With a magnificent rainbow, like never before;

Millions of humans, each day I see
Suffering in silence, all around me,
Suffering because they have forgotten to derive
Happiness from the simpler things in life…

Suffering millions, suffering in vain,
Little knowing, the true cause of their pain
Lies hidden in the desires that they blindly chase
Alas, only to end up losing their ways.

Lost in the labyrinths of despair and gloom,
Their tired minds leave no room,
For the rainbow of joy to appear again
They weep, but alas, their tears are frozen.

Thus I seek the eternal rainbow
The rainbow that would enlighten them too-
And, rising from the worldly web of desire,
God’s finest creation will be born anew.
