THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE MISING WRITERS TO THE ASSAMESE LITERATURE




1. Introduction
Assam is inhabited by different type of people. Among them the Mising people are one of the indigenous people living in this region since time immemorial. The Mising people have intermingled with the Assamese society and have contributed a lot of to the Assamese culture and literature.

Assam has produced a lot of literary genius. Various writers have contributed to the Assamese literature. Among those contributions, the Mising writers have also dedicated to the growth of Assamese literature. A short description of their contributions has been enumerated below:

1.1 Poetry
To the Assamese poem many Mising poets have also contributed wonderful poems. Amongst the poets Tarun Chandra Pamegam (Kobita Koli, Kobita Kusum), Bhrigumuni Kagyung (Onahut, Mon Bononir Jui), Nahendra Padun (Mor Logoriya, Osin Onurag, Sintamoni Aru Loralir Kobita), Jotin Mipun (Dupor Nishar Bahit), Indreswar Pegu (Kherkota Paror Gaan, Sabdabor), Khogen Pegu (Hatipoti, Krantilagna, Tai Eta Ronga Apel),  Khageswar Pegu (Hridayar Anurag,Eti Sabdar Sandhanat, Kumari Aranyar Sandhanat), Jogen Taid (Horiyoh Rokhiya Gabhorujoni), Komol Bori (Disangmukhor Huhuri), Gangamohan Mili (Disangmukhor Ebati Apong, Oi Nitomor Pritivi, Nodi Manuhor Thikona, Matmorar Kobita Aru Bishad Gantha), Anil Panging (Anubhabar Ghila Khela Tangighar), Jiban Noroh (Dhou Khela Loralir San, O Mor Dhuniya Kopou Pahi), Ujjal Paogam (Sa-Nirbasita), Joy Kr. Doley (Ami Ulongo Deshor Manuh), Tukheswar Miri (Mur Son Pora Potharoloi Nami Ahise Azak Barssun), Muhiram Pegu (Mouno Oth Mukhor Manuh), Dipok Kr. Doley (Ghoorai Powa Hole Loralir Paar Howa Hei Dinbor, Asinang Onam), Pradip Kr. Taye (Buwoti Nodir Bornil Swapna), Danny Gam (O Mor Changor Manuh), Bibeka Lagasu (Keruwa Laikar Pare Pare, Jiwontu Nohoy Bharaghor) are worth mention. Most of the poets in their poem have attributed to their lives and have described about their love for nature. Beside this they have also contributed to the growth and development of their societies. They have transformed their knowledge of their societies to their creative world.

1.2 Drama
To the Assamese drama many Misings dramatists have also contributed good plays.  Kagyung (2003) stated that among them Tarun Chandra Pamegam is one of the greatest. Pamegam’s plays like ‘Popiya Tora’, ‘Hetu’, Ekangkika Mala’ have created social awareness to many people of this region. Some other dramatists have also created Assamese drama.

1.3 Novel
In the field of Assamese novels some important writers like Tarun Chandra Pamegam (Hamajor Abhisap, Paharpuri, Agnijugar Phiringoti), Suren Doley (Joubanar Logoriya), Bhaben Pegu (Oiyau, Jiyadhalak Bhetiba Kone), Ganesh Pegu (Poopir), Jatin Mipun (Miksi Jili), Indreswar Pegu (Mibu), Deben Pegu (Yaka Mirem), Sabonti Pegu (Kopou Phular Hubhah), Khogen Pegu (Eswarar Astitva) are important novelists (Pegu, 2003). These novels have described about their traditional customs to the Mising society.

1.4 Story
The number of Mising short story writers are few to the Assamese literatures. The famous writers Tarun Chandra Pamegam with his story ‘Golpor Leseri’ have contributed many interesting short stories (Kagyung, 2003). On the other hand Dr. Jatin Mipun’s ‘Kangkanar Pritivit’, Khageswar Pegus ‘Mulung’ have contributed some everlasting and good short stories.

1.5 Essay
In the critisism level the followings critics are worth mentioning like Tarun Chandra Pamegam, Chakbhal Kagyung, Dr. Numol Pegu, Tabu Ram Taid, Nahendra Padun, Bhrigumuni Kagyung, Ratneswar Permey, Tankeswar Loying, Suren Doley, Dr. Durgeswar Doley, Indreswar Pegu, Bibhishan Pegu, Ganesh Pegu, Dr. Jatin Mipun, Dr. Bidyeswar Doley, Dr. Basanta Kr. Doley, Dr. Jawaharjyoti Kuli and Jatin Payeng. Dr. Numol Pegus ‘Misingsakalar Sanskriti Aru Itibritta’, Mising Janajibanar Ruprekha’, Tabu Ram Taid’s ‘Ekuki Nibandha’, Nahendra Paduns ‘Asamiya Sanskritiloi Janagostiya Borongoni’, ‘Mising Bhashar Abhash’,  Ganesh Pegus ‘Mising Lokosanskritir Chamu Abhas’, Suren Doleys ‘Aliyai Ligang’s are some important critics of present times.

1.6 Others
Among the writers like Sonaram Panyang Kotoky, Dr. Durgeswar Doley, Dr. Ganesh Pegu, Kamleswar Pegoo, Ghanashyam Taye, Krishnaram Mili and many other Mising writers have also contributed to the well-known Assamese literature.

2. Conclusion
No much studies have been done on these writers till date. Enough scope is there to conduct enumerative studies on these areas. At this present times, exclusive and intensive study can draw attention. Due to absence of work done on this level, the present and past writer are being unknown with the facts and current knowledge about their writings. Therefore it has become important to carry out research and review their writings. So the present writers and the common readers get maximum benefit of it and contribute much and more about literary knowledge and growth of Assamese literature in this region.
