An eminent Indian poet, writer, critic and academician, Sahityacharya Nalinidhar Bhattacharya left his earthly home forever on 2nd September, 2016. He was one of the important poets of the Jayanti era in Assamese literature. He has been honoured with prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002 for his compendium ‘Mahat Oitijya’. He was also the recipient of Assam Valley Literature Award in 2006. The title ‘Sahityacharya’ was conferred to him in 2010 by Asom Sahitya Sabha. He chaired the Poets’ Conclave in the bi-ennial session of Asom Sahitya Sabha held at Diphu. He was also conferred many other prestigious awards including Soviet Land Nehru Award (1983), Mrinalini Devi Award, Indian Language Parishad Award, Chaganlal Jain Award, ‘Papari Kabi’ Ganesh Gogoi Award. Dhaneswar spread the fishing net on the courtyard to dry, put the bamboo wicker basket on the edge of the verandah and poured water on his head emptying most from the pitcher kept on the courtyard. Then he rubbed his body a few times making the characteristic sound. He also rubbed the legs forcefully from his knee down with a loofah. The bath was ceremonially finished by pouring the remaining water on his waist. Then he dried his torso and head hurriedly and changed into a dry hand-woven towel.
