HILLS THAT SING

Sudipta Phukan

Right in front you are
Green and beautiful
Clouds happily swim your body
Thunderstorm cannot touch you
Nor does the wind or rain
You give assurance
Of firmness
Of boldness
And of fixity.

You are space
For the singing birds
And the dancing waterfalls
Solid rocks and green trees.
You bleed when people hurt you
You cry silently
You curse.
You mighty Hill
Be green and beautiful
Nevertheless.
