A STUDY ON WOMEN TRAFFICKING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TEA GARDEN AREAS OF DHEKIAJULI, SONITPUR DISTRICT

Abstract
Human trafficking can be considered as a big issue exists in India. In different places of India, women trafficking exist as a big problem. In Assam also women trafficking exist. In this research study, the focuses have given on the triggering factors which can be influenced trafficking in Tea garden areas of Assam. Here it has been trying to show how stigma, ignorance could become a factor of trafficking. Through describing two case studies, data analysis, the study has emphasized on the positive factors through which there have the possibilities of reducing and prevent the level of trafficking in tea gardens.

1.   Introduction
Human trafficking refers to the trade of humans which is most commonly happens for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labour, or commercial sexual exploitation for the traffickers or others. 

Under United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) defines Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. In India human trafficking as well as women trafficking is exist in a vast way. Andhra pradesh, West Bengal, Maharastra, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Bihar, Orissa and Delhi have been identified as the most affected states. The border areas are one of the vulnerable areas where there are the chances of trafficking.

Like other places in India, Assam also has the issue of trafficking. As Assam is situated in North east region of India and it connect with near Boarder areas of other country such as China, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, so it is easy for the traffickers and middle man to continue the trade of human. In Assam it has been seen that women and girl child are trafficked to near places such as Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Bangladesh and other parts of the country like Delhi, Haryana etc (Saikia, 2008).
