JOURNEY TO MY SCHOOL

By Kumaresh Das

Dangling the bag
On my back
With a bright smile
Promise my child to comeback,
Kicking the bike
Into life
Tucking a betel nut
Bade my wife,
Excelling the motion
Talk to the wind
On the high way, I ply
For a long drive, I fly.

Boredom ushers
On some part of my way
Full of potholes and gutters,
Turn down the race
The magnificent high way
Lost it's own grace,
The wheels whirl
Across the twirl
Overloaded vehicles clank
Drive towards the riverbank.

Then, To cross the river
With a wooden wobbly boat
Passengers, cycles and
Dozen of motorbikes
Overload,
Again an hour ride
Through barren lands
Through crop lands and paddy
Arid ways and dusty.

Beside the Brahmaputra
On sand Dune
Fragile banks and ways
Plunge in water
During monsoon,
Finally, I reach my school
On sandy bay
With hundred of inquisitive eyes
A temple of knowledge, spreading ray.
