THE USE OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND THEIR IMPACTS IN EFFECTIVE CHEMISTRY DELIVERY IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EBONYI STATE

Abstract
This study aimed at finding out the Use of Instructional Materials and their Impacts for Effective Chemistry Delivery in Secondary Schools. In this work, three (3) research questions were formulated .The population covers all the Chemistry Teachers in Ebonyi State Secondary School System. In Ebonyi State, there are thirteen Local Government Areas, in each four (4) secondary schools were selected using stratified random sampling and in each school selected two (2) chemistry teachers were selected using simple random sampling which make up 104 chemistry teachers to represent the population .The instrument used was structured questionnaire, delivered by hand personally by the researcher to the respondents. The data were collected and analyzed using mean scores. From the analyses it was found that , when instructional materials were used they create positive impact in chemistry delivery .Recommendations were made based on findings which include that, chemistry teachers should always plan their lessons alongside with instructional materials and use them appropriately as this would enhance effective chemistry delivery.

1.   Introduction
Chemistry as a practical oriented subject does not just need to be taught without practical display of some materials that, will aid the understanding. Observations have shown that when chemistry is delivered without adequate instructional materials there would be high level of obstructions as regards to concept explanation (Okon, 2002).

Atanda and Lameed (2006) stated that, the success of any teaching and learning process depends not only on the use of relevant and adequate teaching materials. They further stated that instructional materials are the final tripod that holds teaching.
