Abstract
In this
materialistic world and in the age of information technology reformation
coupled with world terrorism and in the age of globalization, the Gandhian
philosophy is more and more relevance all over the world today. Gandhi was a
freedom fighter, a philosopher, a moralist, a spiritualist and above all a
practitioner of truth. Though Gandhiji cannot be worshiped as God yet we need
to understand his manifold teachings and also examine how his philosophy and
Hindu ideology could be implemented meaningfully in contemporary world.
Particularly the virtue of non-violence as practiced by Mahatma Gandhi is more
relevant today. Gandhiji’s teachings can be used as a potent weapon against
war, bloodshed, terrorism and other violence activities. The character of
Gandhiji and his philosophy needs to study from different perspectives. In this
paper, an attempt is made to reflect Gandhian philosophy and Hindu ideology,
reflected in some novels of Indian English writers like R. K. Narayan and Raja
Rao. The objective of this paper is to showcase the impact of Gandhian
philosophy upon Indian people during the Indian freedom movement as described
in some Indian English novels.
Key words: Gandhi, Gandhian
philosophy, Hindu ideology, Freedom movement
