Shiva
Prasad Mili
Do you know?
Once upon a time
I climbed down the hills
Passed through the vales
And swam across the streams and rivers.
The forceful river waves obstructed me
And forecast the danger before me.
Pédong Nane blessed me
And Donyi Po:lo: above me.
Through the jungle I crumpled
To find an abode for doze
But the Epom Uyi beguiled me
On the way baffling my journey.
I left behind the top hills
Wobbly way of my life
The rites and the tradition
And nature’s bounty.
Thus I reached the plain.
And looked for new life.
Notes:
Pedong Nane: In
the belief system of the Mising people, Pédong Nane(meaning Rain mother) is the
supreme body in the line of creation.
The Donyi Po:lo: Donyi means the Sun and Po:lo: the Moon. The
Donyi-Po:lo: occupy a special place in their religion. They consider them as
the guiding spirits in their life.
