SORROW

Original in Assames: Dr. Sailen Das
Translation: Bibekananda Choudhury

Everyone has a reply to everything
Right from the Pillow cover to the dry leaf of the winter
On so many nights sorrow enters pushing open the door to the heart
But the Pillow do not react, why?
Unfamiliar sorrow in familiar eyes
Familiar sorrow in unfamiliar eyes
Everyone preserves the sorrows very carefully
Enquires about well being with a smile – how are you?
Olden days give something
The grasses sprouting on the courtyard speaks a lot
The birds come flying turning into varied hues
As I get immersed in your thoughts
He wept to vent out his sorrow
Scribbled something
Roamed around turning into green
Went for a evening stroll riding a ramshackle rickshaw
Read stories, sang songs
And I cohabited with sorrow
The sorrowful people are happy
Because, sorrows do have joy
To complete the road under construction in the heart
As an afterthought
Everything appears fine
In retrospect
