Abstract
This paper is an attempt to show how the depiction of folktales, which are fast becoming obsolete, via electronic media can act as a means for sustaining ethnic identity in a multicultural society. The study was done using primary and secondary methods.  Electronic media could play crucial role in the preservation of ethnic identity as the advancement of science and technology has led to a large number of e-media users. It is seen that in multicultural societies, the mixture of different culture results in the rise of new cultures. Therefore, if the children are ignorant of their own cultures, gradual disappearance of the same is certain. Interestingly, as the storytellers of children are the electronic gadgets of modern society, preservation of one’s ethnic values, traditions, ideals and principles, folktales via e-media can act as a catalyst to impart ethnic knowledge to children.
